June 9th to 14th prize giving on 15th and registration on 8th (60 places) £240
There will be a week of guiding in the local area in the week preceding the competition (2nd to the 8th of June). This needs to be booked separately here.
For the first time in its history 2018 will see a BPCup round abroad. After the weather defeated us in 2016 it was decided to explore the option of a comp round in foreign climes. Following a successful test week in 2017 with a small team of volunteers, we are excited to announce the Macedonian round for 2018.
Macedonia is a land locked country bordered by Greece, Albania, Kosovo, Serbia and Bulgaria. It has some of the best conditions for flying in Eastern Europe and is relatively simple to get to and inexpensive once you are there.
The competition HQ will be based in the well appointed and very comfortable 4* Montana Palace Hotel in Krushevo situated in a beautiful setting just above the town. We have negotiated special rates for pilots wishing to stay in the hotel – just €20 per person per night B&B for a shared room or €30 per person per night for a single room. You will need a promotional code when making your hotel booking to obtain the special rate, we will email this to you.
The town of Krushevo is perched at an altitude of around 6000ft asl with the main paragliding takeoff a brief 5 minute car ride away. The main takeoff is right next to the road, east facing, overlooking a massive plateau surrounded on three sides by mountains. This will be our competition arena, offering race like tasks as well as more XC type mountain tasks, making it the perfect combination for a BPCup round. Cloud base is regularly at 10,000ft and temperatures on the ground are around 20 deg Celsius.
There are plenty of things to do in and around Krushevo, including walking, climbing and mountain biking as well as the option of exploring nearby Lakes Ohrid and Prespa. The local flora and fauna are quite stunning too. The thriving mountain town of Krushevo has many places to eat and drink and we recommend you take time to sample the local cuisine; the beer’s not bad either! MORE INFO
The competition will run from Saturday the 9th to Thursday the 14th of June with registration on Friday 8th June and prize giving on Friday 15th June. This is to make it easier for pilots to travel to and from the UK as there are no flights to Skopje on a Friday or Monday. Direct flights Luton - Skopje are available from Wizzair. We will be organising direct transfers from the airport to the Hotel Montana Palace and back for €20 each way. Please email email@example.com to tell us if you require a shuttle and advise what time your flight is due in. Make sure you receive a reply to your email. There is also car hire available at the airport for those that prefer this option. It is around a two hour drive.
Regarding using your mobile phone, it is worth getting a Macedonian SIM card as these are relatively inexpensive and allow you to use data (the network is very good in Macedonia) and contact others locally. You can easily obtain a local SIM card at the airport.
You will need to supply proof at registration of your BHPA membership, together with insurance covering you for flying in an amateur competition, both valid for the competition period. You will also need to have all the relevant equipment including a certified wing, harness, reserve (we recommend recently repacked) radio, instruments and helmet, see the Rules tab for full details.
Included in your entry fee will be the minibus to takeoff and retrieve, a souvenir comp T shirt, buffet welcome meal, mid week meal, end of comp party and packed lunches.
As with all the BPCup competitions this round will be run as a friendly, inclusive competition with the aim of improving your flying, all in a stress free and supportive environment.
